A string of economic pitfalls can send people flocking in job fairs and compete for few available positions. As the number of the applicants increases, the competition is intensified with each candidate trying to out-best one another. Sheer wit might get you the job but most of the time, it takes more than just that. As exams become unnecessary in some companies, the aspirant must build himself in aspects that will make him stand out from the rest. The applicant’s experiences and background will speak for himself. A well-versed candidate can lure the boss to offer the job. Although recommendations may seem helpful, it’s the over-all capacity of the individual that will count. The employers have the eyes for those who fit in the job so it’s important that individuals who are aspiring for that well-coveted position display a strong sense of skills, competence and passion for the position they are applying for.
There are some fundamental principles that may boost ones chance of being hired:
· Develop self-confidence –in order to make a good impression, a good amount of self confidence is necessary. Unfortunately, self-confidence is something not everyone has. It may be forced out by being equipped with the considerable amount of knowledge about one’s self, the company he’s applying for, the position and the nature of work that it may entail. Blunt as it may look like, but those who can back their claims with facts and founded beliefs do have bigger opportunities to top the interview and eventually land the job. It is also striking if you can make a good introduction of yourself by avoiding too much flattery and not being too flagrant at the same time.
· Dress Professionally – Clothes make a man. That is also true even in applying and being interviewed for a job. Long before you open your mouth, the employers may have already judged you based on face value. So the best way to do good in this aspect is dressing wisely. Job interviews are purely business in nature so wear clothes that signify your seriousness about the job you’re trying to get. Too much apparel is a turn off in as much as too less is a big NO. Let your attire complement and not overtake you.
· Choose the right words and keep focused- keep the conversation in the right tone by not being too casual and too assertive. Make your thoughts clear and deliver them precisely in a manner that can be understood by the interviewer. A derailed thought always ends with a turn down so stick with the main points and elaborate them if needed. The choice of words is also an important factor as that will flaunt your vocabulary. Be tactful, say thank you as often as needed and always be amiable.
· Show interest- Sometimes, answering the question isn’t enough to satisfy an employer. When asked to point out areas where you need clarifications with, always be ready to raise your question. That shows your eagerness and interest to know more about the company. That will also show that you’re being spontaneous with the conversation and not rely only on stories you have prepared beforehand.
A job interview is a tough albeit an enjoyable experience. But of course you’re not there sitting in front of someone selling yourself while trying to conceal your apparent nervousness to just enjoy the whole process. You’re there to get the job. So take all the necessary cards and ace your job interview.
